"Sometimes all you need is a little splash of color."

The kitchen is the heart of the house in my opinion. This space brings families together after a long day. It's where chefs of all levels try their skill at new creations and old favorites. It's a prime spot for gatherings of birthday dinners, surprise breakfasts, and midnight snacks. And, just as people grow and change, your kitchen should too. Our kitchens shouldn't look the same way they did in our 20s as they do into our 40s, or into retirement and the years of relaxing. Sometimes we don't always have the time or the finances to completely renovate and remodel. Fortunately, a much more cost effective method of change is available, and highly encouraged in the design world. Adding a touch of color to your kitchen can revamp the whole appearance without breaking the bank. Take a look at some of these creative options (both from previous jobs of ours and ideas via the internet) that I've complied to help bring some fun inspiration to your home.

#1- The Walls

Paint is probably the most obvious choice when thinking of ways to add color to a room. But broaden your horizons and try a color a little brighter, or multiple colors that compliment each other. Wallpaper is also an affordable option which can bring a beautiful design into your kitchen as well.  The first (and probably hardest) decision with all of these options is simply choosing the colors you wish to accent with.

#2- The Cabinets

Cabinets now come in a wide variety of colors, but if you can't seem to find one that you fall in love with, there are plenty of tutorials on the internet on how to paint them yourself. Colored cabinets are striking and unconventional, but because they cover such a large space in your kitchen, try to pick neutral tones for the rest of the décor.

If the exterior of the cabinets being colorful is a little too loud for your taste, another option (and my personal favorite) is to leave the exterior of the cabinets either wood or white and paint only the interior. This gives a beautiful bright "pop", but only when the cabinets are open.

#3- Your Furniture

Furniture, in my opinion, is supposed to be beautiful colors. Black and white furniture (although timeless) can become boring. A gorgeous table in bright blue or fire red barstools can draw the eye, and in turn open up the rest of the space.

#4- The Appliances

This option is by far the boldest. Appliances are now being made in a spectrum of colors, and can be the perfect solution to adding a vivid, eye-catching conversation starter to your kitchen. These colors are not 1970's avocado and orange. They are sure to impress anyone who walks into your home. A word of caution- if you do choose to go with this option, pick a color you will love no matter the circumstance. Appliances are on the expensive side, and changing them out is no easy task. Keep that in mind, but don't let it deter you from what elegance they can create.

There are countless ways to add your favorite color into your kitchen, and even though I could list off 15 more ways, this post would be a mile long. If you have color in your kitchen that you would love to show off, drop a picture off in the comments section. We'd love to see your creative ideas here at Melinda's Interior Design!
